Pythagoras of Samos
This is a pencil rendition of one of my favourite paintings: Pythagoras of Samos, by John Augustus Knapp. He was commissioned to paint this for Manly P Hall's Secret Teachings of All ages. We all learned the way to solve a triangle using the Pythagorean theorem in school: A2 + B2 = C2 -- however I was only shown the equation, and never in the form of a picture (as shown in the bottom right corner).
I find Pythagoras an inspiring contributor to a lot of my art work. His contribution to mankind through music and numbers may never be paralleled.
"The oldest, shortest words — "yes" and "no" — are those which require the most thought." -Pythagoras
